MMA Origins on Bloody Elbow

Bloody Elbow have published a couple of cool articles recently as part of an “MMA Origins” series. Similar to their “Jiu-jitsu History” articles, they have been looking at ancient combat sports and how they relate to modern mixed martial arts.

The first article looks at Greek Pankration (if the name sounds familiar, Pancrase was named after it), it goes into the origins of the sport, and there’s a great video at the end from the Discovery Channel show Human Weapon.

The next article, Getting Medieval, goes into how wrestling began in europe, and the similarities it bears with jujitsu despite the two ancient arts never actually crossing paths. More videos in this one too.

These articles are definitely worth a read, fingers crossed they write some more.
