Tattoos and MMA – Alan Belcher

I would like to start by saying that I think Alan Belcher is awesome. He defied all odds by coming back from 2 surgeries to reattach his retina, to win in dominant fashion against tough veteran Jason MacDonald at UFC Fight Night 25. A detached retina is the kind of injury that is pretty much a career ender, and almost anyone else would have given up there. But not Alan Belcher. His aggressive style of muay thai is super exciting to watch, and the guy has the heart of a lion.

But…

He sports this monstrosity of a tattoo on his arm;

Apparently this is a tattoo of Johnny Cash, and thinking about it, it does look exactly like him. That is, of course, if his face was made of sick.

A lot of people have said that they think he got the tattoo before putting on muscle mass, and it has since stretched out. To be honest though, even if this is the case, it can’t have been very good in the first place. It’s a shame, because in a sport overrun with terrible tribal tattoos, a high quality colour portrait on a top tier fighter would be pretty awesome. Alas, tis not the case.

Maybe with his win bonus Alan will get some better work done. With his outstanding performance against MacDonald, he is probably only a win or two away from a title shot. With all the added attention that comes with high profile fights, he could use something nice to draw the attention away from Johnny Gash there.

Glad to see you back Alan. Well, most of you!
